ArthurCraig 1940 - 2024
William Hugh Arthur Craig began his career as an architect, shaping built environments with a sensitivity to space, structure and light.
Since the 1980's he pursued painting with equal devotion. An advocate of Abstract Expressionism, Craig drew inspiration from the mid-century masters: Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko.
Originally from Belfast, Arthur lived for most of his life in South London.
He qualified as an architect from the Oxford School of Architecture in 1965. From 1990 he focused on his artistic career until his death in 2024.
Arthur's work has been exhibited widely and his solo shows in London, Paris and Copenhagen have been recognised critically as 'brilliantly emotional'
