Gabriel Langlands

A British self-taught landscape painter who lives and works in Hampshire, England. His work is inspired by the woodlands, fields and coastal landscapes of southern England and Scotland, and is characterised by expressive brushwork, simplified forms and an atmospheric treatment of light and weather. Painting largely outdoors (en plein air), Langlands creates works that sit between observation and abstraction, capturing the changing moods and rhythms of the natural world.

Before becoming a full-time artist, Langlands worked on fishing boats and in fish-processing stations in Arctic Norway and later trained as a traditional timber framer. These experiences helped shape his close connection to landscape and craftsmanship.

His first public exhibition was at Glyndebourne’s Fair Ground exhibition in 2023, and he has since exhibited in galleries across England, including Sussex, London and Hay-on-Wye. In 2026, Glyndebourne presented Among the Lights, his first solo exhibition. His paintings have been noted for their affinity with the British landscape tradition of artists such as Paul Nash and Eric Ravilious, while maintaining a distinctive contemporary voice.
