Interpretations of Reality 2024

 

Franco-British artist Delphine Hogarth Lafaye creates mixed-media paintings on canvas by playing with color and using a sense of humor. While her paintings remain graphic and abstracted in terms of the recognizable shapes featured, a few figurative details act as clues to guide the eye of the viewer into the buried story. These clues make sure the viewer is included into the subtle communication she attempts to create.

Although the classical perspective has been mostly banished, color explores a far-away and close spatial environment within the painting. It is sometimes subdued with thinner layers, but occasionally jumps out of the canvas. Opaque and transparent areas spawn openings and holes where sensibilities are conjured.
